Whales are known for being curious creatures. A crew of marine investigators in the Gulf of Mexico, using a remotely operated vehicle (ROV) 1,962 feet deep, discovered just how curious when a sperm whale decided to check out what they were doing. The whale had to be certain they weren't a strange competitor in his territory.

You can hear the astonishment in the voices of the marine researchers from their voices here. There's no way to know what the whale was thinking.
