Why does animation adapt so well to telling creative stories with strong scientific or technological themes? PIXAR, the animation studio, certainly has found a way in such films as Finding Nemo (coral reef symbiosis); Inside/Out (human emotions); and LAVA (island geology).

Danielle Feinberg, Pixar's director of photography, describes how the studio's animators and storytellers craft magical films with that correctly incorporate soul and wonder using math, science, and software code.
