Matthieu Ricard: Altruism, Compassion, & the Environment

What is altruism? According to  Matthieu Ricard,  it is the wish that other people may be happy.

To the French intellectual, happiness researcher, student of the Dalai Lama, and monk, altruism is also a great lens for decision making, both in the short and long term, in work and in life. To Ricard, altruism works at both the personal and environmental levels. As global leaders gather in Paris to discuss climate change, his words at a recent TED conference are very relevant:
