In the classic Italian folk tale Pinocchio, the wooden puppet's nose would grow whenever he didn't tell the truth. It's a story commonly told to children to teach them to be honest.

After long field studies in a South American rainforest, a real-life Pinocchio was discovered. However, this time it was a lizard. After hunting for several years, the long-nosed lizard was seen walking at night by researchers in a remote cloud-forest in Ecuador. The Pinocchio lizard, was first discovered in 1953 but thought extinct as only three had been spotted since then. It is a fine example of survival of a species if its habitat is protected.Photos and a video help describe the super-rare reptile.

The Pinocchio lizard is an exciting discovery of an endangered species. What other rare species wait to be found in this cloud forest next?
