Author: Hugh Bollinger/Wednesday, May 8, 2013/Categories: wildlife conservation, art and design, environment

Maya Lin is probably best known for designing the Vietnam War Memorial. It is one of the most visited national monuments in Washington, DC. The conceptual artist has now created another monument to a largely silent issue: the loss of natural biodiversity.

Lin's new installation begun in 2010 is called
What is Missing? and has begun touring at various museums. A stunning interactive component can be viewed here: What is Missing?

An interview with Lin was conducted by
Environment 360 at Yale University, where she was went to graduate school, about her new work. A video of one public exhibition also illustrates Maya Lin's visual statement about vanishing life:

You would be well advised to search out What is Missing? if it is exhibited near you.
