An underwater robot recently observed a jellyfish in American Samoa that looks like a creature that could have arrived from outer space. The "cosmic jelly" or hydromedusa was filmed during the robot's first dive from the Okeanos Explorer onto an underwater mountain (seamount). Okeanos is NOAA's only federally-funded vessel  assigned to systematically explore unknown marine zones for the purpose of scientific discovery and to advance better understanding of the oceans.

Hopefully, NOAA will undertake many more marine science expeditions even in difficult times.
