De-extinction, the Good News

The list of species extinctions that were caused by humans is long: the Dodo, the Passanger Pigeon, the Tasmanian Tiger, and the Wooly Mammoth are just a few examples. What if there were a way to bring them back to life? Should we do so? The tools of DNA synthesis, genetic engineering, other biotechnologies now offer that potential.

Stewart Brand, the publisher of the Whole Earth Catalog, makes a good environmental case we should try and that it would be "good news":
