Flying Rhinos to the Rescue

Author: Hugh Bollinger/Wednesday, April 6, 2016/Categories: wildlife conservation, video, sustainability, environment

Poaching of African wildlife for sale as trinkets and potions in China and elsewhere has become so extensive that conservationists are now taking drastic measures to protect animals. Efforts now include airlifting of huge rhinos to safer locations, like Botswana, where they can be monitored and protected. The animals are even being shipped to Australia now where the Australian Rhino Project is underway.

These 'stop-gap' initiatives to save the critically endangered species work to create safe populations. The long-term solution is to bring a total end to the illicit trade in endangered species, now only second to the trade in drugs. That is a huge task just like an airlift!
