Quantum Locking

A recent TED Global conference posed a question: “How can a super-thin 3-inch, one micron thick, disk levitate something 70,000 times its own weight?”

In a stunning demonstration, Boaz Almog shows how superconductors can produce a phenomenon known as quantum locking to frictionlessly levitate a disc over a magnetic rail with zero energy loss. The era of ‘back to the future’ levitating vehicles can’t be far off.
