Adios, Bayou

A sinkhole emerged last year in Assumption Parish, Louisiana when gas bubbles began appearing in a bayou. It has now expanded rapidly and swallowed an entire grove of bald cypress trees growing in the swamplands:
 

An environmental organization believes the sinkhole resulted from drilling into salt caverns . Whatever may be the cause, it is bye, bye to the bayou and the livelihoods of those who lived and depended on them.
