Mementos of Earth

the Voyagers carried Earth mememtos into space

Author: Hugh Bollinger/Thursday, July 4, 2013/Categories: space science, adventure

In 1977 when the Voyager space probes were launched towards interstellar space, the dual craft carried a collection of mementos. These included a Golden Record containing photographs of Earth, greetings in 55 languages, and music from humpback whales to Chuck Berry. The discs and their vessels are now sailing beyond the last remnants of the solar system.

As we relax and enjoy hamburgers this 4th of July, remembering explorations of discovery and the creative adventurers who undertook these quests might be worth celebrating as well.

Enjoying some rock & roll or whale songs sounds good as well.
