The Jet Propulsion Laboratory at CalTech is world famous for its science and engineering accomplishments but it has now been recognized for its film and animation creativity as well. The Lab just received an Emmy Award from the Television Academy for its production of Cassini's Grand Finale as the space robot plunged into Saturn's atmosphere on its last orbit. JPL was presented with an Emmy in the category for OUTSTANDING ORIGINAL INTERACTIVE PROGRAM. The lab had created a video that presented some of the discoveries made by the Cassini space probe during its 17 year mission.

This recognition also showcases the importance of collaborations between the arts and sciences in communicating the importance and value of science. Using visual media in all its creative forms JPL created a Grand Finale of Cassini's end.
