Every 10 years, nominations can be submitted for UNESCO World Heritage designations. In 2017, a transnational effort in Canada and the USA is working to have the Salish Sea, an ecosystem stretching from Puget Sound in Washington State to its headwaters in central British Columbia, designated. It is a big project.
Most productive environmental and cultural efforts begin through the initiative of engage individuals and small groups. A promotional video was produced showing the myriad benefits received from the interconnected land and sea ecosystem and support its wider recognition.
