Can playing with math and threads help to save coral reefs? It can't hurt.

Australian science writer Margaret Wertheim applies mathematics to crocketing wool threads and recreates the geometry of the natural reef structures in the process. Her creations simultaneously celebrate the amazing live corals themselves but also displies the hyperbolic math involved in coral evolution and growth. Gallery exhibitions now inform people worldwide and are attracting people to become directly involved in understanding corals.

Impressive!
