The natural world. Looking pretty for 3.5b years.

World Oceans Day, 2016

June 8 is designated World Oceans Day by the United Nations. The event is intended to bring attention to and celebrate the marine world. This year's theme is: "Healthy Oceans...Healthy Planet". However, the major bleaching events that have occurred in 2016 on coral reefs worldwide, you would be correct to assume that the oceans are in a sorry state of affairs. By some dangerous estimates, the ocean food chain is already being affected and if water tempertures and acidification continue to increase, this will produce food shortages and even affect the phytoplankton that produce the oxygen everyone breathes. If true, that would definitely not be worth a celebration.

NOAA produced a video to highlight the importance and the dependency of everyone on this global resource.
