Want Sustainable Designs?....Apply Biomimicry

Author: Hugh Bollinger/Tuesday, March 10, 2020/Categories: natural history, video, sustainability, art and design, environment, adventure

Developing new and sustainable designs for architectural, robots, medical devices, or many other useful products is a long process. Designers would be wise to take advantage of results created over millions of years by evolution and apply biomimicry, as design ideas from nature. Evolution's slow selection, testing, and re-selection process has created a wealth of efficient designs to accomplish tasks. The existing results have survived the test of time in all natural environments on Earth. They offer excellent analogs for design engineers and builders.

Several examples are presented by biomimicry researcher Janine Benyus who illustrates natural designs in her presentation on this expanding field of research and discovery.
