New Roles for an Ancient Fiber

From some tiny  worms , a wondrous natural fiber grows. Once considered a luxury fabric, that gave its name to an ancient road, silk now serves as the basis for a myriad of new products with medical applications. The biotechnological wonders being created still depend on the tiny worms and the fiber for the starting material.
