In 1962,  The Place No One Knew  was published and described the redrock landscapes of Glen Canyon on the Utah/Arizona border before it was flooded by the dam creating Lake Powell. The loss of Glen Canyon is considered one of the greatest in American wilderness history since the founding of the Sierra Club and the environmental movement. However, there was someone also virtually unknown, the conservationist  Martin Litton , who helped prevent the same fate from happening to the Grand Canyon. Litton just  passed away  at the age of 97.

Tributes to the contributions of passionate people are fine but perhaps the best is hearing Litton speak on his concerns about the environment himself:
