Sea Level Rise by Zip Code

Sea Level Rise by Zip Code

Author: Hugh Bollinger/Wednesday, May 1, 2019/Categories: natural history, sustainability, environment, climate change

If you live near the ocean, you should have interest in what a changing sea level could mean to your coastal zone.

As atmospheric warming continues to increase, its affects on the oceans are many. The environmental organization Climate Central has produced an interactive map that illustrates how rising sea levels might affect your area. All you need to do is simply putting in your zip code. Surging Seas illustrates what the USA could look like with an ocean that is 10 feet higher. The transformed map would lose 28,800 square miles of land, home today to 12.3 million people.

After you've run the Climate Central sea level model, you might wish to ask what your local officials are doing to build-in resilience for the super-storms that have already arrived and will continue to come in the future.
