The Colorado: Our River, Our Story, Our Time

Author: Hugh Bollinger/Saturday, October 12, 2013/Categories: natural history, video, sustainability, environment, adventure

Environmental conservation is often characterized as a concern of people with Anglo-Saxon heritage. A Colorado River trip by a group of Latino students shows this is hardly the case as they ran the river to raise awareness about its plight.

According to Save the Colorado, Neustro Rio, a Latino coalition was created to conserve the 1,450 mile-long river of the southwestern United States and Mexico. The organization took students on a six-day rafting adventure down the river. They later traveled to Washington, DC to share their story with congressional representatives on what they had learned of the river’s history and issues associated with its future.

As more people from diverse backgrounds become introduced to environmental issues, their enthusiasm is very important. A short video of the students is worth viewing:

Mucho gusto!
