As happens all around the world every week, smart people are hanging out in a large conference room in a very pleasant town, trying to find solutions to climate change.

I'm here at a symposium on Climate Change at the Telluride Mountainfilm Festival, where smart people are figuring out all the angles.

Here are some of the ideas: Jeff Goodell talks about shooting chemicals into the atmosphere, Daniel Nocera talks about building little power plants for each house, engineering new stoves, Grant McCargo goes on about changing agriculture patterns, Germany creates tariffs on energy -- these are hopeful solutions. These are hopeful speeches. These hint that we're not going to die in fire.

These people -- engineers and business people and journalists and philosophers -- are smart enough to find a way through this and over this. We're going to scrub the carbon out of the air and keep it in the ground and shoot silicates up in the air to cool the planet and everything's going to be just fine. Harvard has taken care of the bulk of the work. Stanford will clean up the rest. Tim DeChristopher will go to prison for us.

I'm apparently off the hook. I'm on my way to lunch. More solutions, from other people, to come.
