THe Art of Mars

frozen ground polygons can develop on Mars

Author: Hugh Bollinger/Monday, May 20, 2013/Categories: natural history, photography, space science, art and design

Over centuries in the Arctic, freezing and thawing sorts smaller and larger stones into patterned ground called polygons. They are very distinct. The process occurs on Mars as well.

Besides the natural history, polygons can be very beautiful---almost like abstract art---as this new HiRise photograph shows.
