Mars Mystery

Mars has many mysteries needing to be solved.

Author: Hugh Bollinger/Monday, May 6, 2013/Categories: natural history, space science

Mars is a mysterious place.

Photographs returned from satellite orbiters are constantly sending images of landforms not obvious how they were created. The latest puzzle from the HiRise cameras shows many shallow and irregular pits with raised rims, concentrated along with other topographic features that are hard to explain.

How did these odd features form?

Some geological investigators at Caltech, speculate there was an ancient oceans over this region of Mars that might explain the odd features. Others think it might be ancient glaciation  depositing ice-rich debris next to topographic obstacles. The cause of these strange landscape structures could be the result of some completely different geologic force.

Perhaps you have an idea to suggest to JPL to help solve the mystery.
