We’re Alive!!!

I don’t know about you, but I’m still here. The Apocalypse must not have been televised as I missed it and the Sun is still rising in the East.

NASA reminds us as well that today, December 21st, is also the winter solstice and the world did not end ...even according to the ending cycle on the Mayan calendar. To celebrate, here’s an image of Orion seen rising over the Temple of Kukulkan at Chichén Itzá, one of the great Mayan centers on the Yucatán peninsula in Mexico. The temple was built between the 9th and 12th centuries and used as a calendar with its astronomical alignments. Peering through clouds behind on this night are stars in the constellation Orion represented a turtle to the Mayan sky astronomers.

As the Maya might have said to celebrate the winter solstice: Tak sáamal
